Sapugaskanda fuel oil mixed floods Colombo; and Gampaha Districts at risk of mixing with drinking water

Due to the heavy rains, the fuel from the Sapugaskanda oil refinery has been mixed with rainwater the rainwater has entered and overflowed into the storage tanks containing fuel oil mixtures at the oil refinery.

The Navy stated that a special operation has been launched to prevent them from entering the Kelani River.

A special operation has been launched to prevent the spread of the fuel because If the fuel oil joins the Kelani River, it will affect the distribution of drinking water through the Biyagama and Ambatale water treatment plants.

The Navy also said that steps are being taken to filter the area through a fuel filter.
