A school in Trincomalee is closed

Trincomalee China Port Tamil College has decided to close indefinitely. That’s because a teacher at that school became infected with COVID 19 and the teacher had visited the school yesterday as well, despite conducting a PCR test two days ago.

All the Prison visits are suspended

Visitors to all the prisons are suspended for two weeks; prisons Media Spokesperson Prisons Commissioner Chandana Ekanayake said The decision was taken due to the increase in the number of COVID 19 infections increasing in the country. War commemoration monument at Jaffna University reopens

The newly constructed war memorial monument at the Jaffna University was declared open today (April 23). The University Students’ Union took action to demolish the monument which had been erected earlier after it was stated as an illegal construction by the decision of the University Grants Commission. However, it was strongly opposed by university students as well as civil society and political organizations in the North and the university students continued to protest against the decision. During the discussions between the student union and the university administration, the university administration agreed to rebuild the monument and the construction work started on January 15. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, Sri Sathgunarasa, who was invited to inaugurate the war memorial today(April 23), was admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital on yesterday(April 22)due to a sudden heart attack. But the University students have opened the war memorial despite of all the circumstances.

Three arrested including Saharan’s wife’s father The Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) has arrested three individuals who were involved in extremist classes organized by Saharan Hashim yesterday( April 22). They were arrested in the Kekunagolla area in Kuliyapitiya was the father of Saharan Hashim’s wife, police stated. No festivals allowed during next month – Sudarshani Fernandopulle

Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle said that complications are also increasing in the young community as infections increasing. The Minister of State stated that steps will be taken to isolate the villages where the highest number of patients are reported.

Colombo port City – Permission to visit the port city must be obtained from the Chinese Ambassador

Permission should be obtained from the Chinese Embassy to inspect the Colombo port city; Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Kings Nelson stated.
