A school girl has died after after been beaten by a cane in a witchcraft treatment.

A nine year old shool girl had died after a beated by a cane in Kanduboda area in Meegahawaththa.The girl and her mother went to a “Devalaya ” that belonged to a women for treatment. The women in the treatment centre had anointed some oil before start to beat the girl with a cane. The women done this treatment to dispel the alleged ‘evil spirits’ from the victims body.The child had fainted and had lost consciousnes while she is beaten by the women. The child was in a critical condition and had been admitted to the Biyagama Hospital.The police States that Later the girl was pronounced dead upon admittance to the hospital.post mortem was carried out by the Mahara Acting Magistrate and the women of the treatment center and the girls mother was arrested over the incident.
Two fishermen that were swept away to the Indian waters rescued

In response to a request of Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Sri Lanka Navy pressed into action to locate the dinghy that had gone missing on February 23. Sri Lanka Navy rescue two fishermens along with the dinghy with the facilitation of Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at Navy Headquarters today 27 of February. Sri Lanka Navy commenced a special search and rescue operation in the area where the missing dinghy was said to be located. They also get the support by Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Chennai. Then the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Chennai informed to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in colombo that Indian Coast Guard ship had spotted the missing dinghy in the indian water. It has drifted beyond the International Maritime Boundary Line .The dinghy which had a technical issue and the two fishermens were assisted to the IMBL. Then Sri Lanka Naval Ship Suranimala towed it safely to the shoreward All the rescue operation was carried out with strict health and safety guidelines in due to COVID-19 safety restrictions.
Army rescue teams recover remains of a missing hiker

A group of hikers had climbed Narangala Ridge in Badulla on 26th of February. They had ignored the DMC warning against night camping.Later they had found that one of their team member was gone missing and called police 119 for help. Then the rescue turned to the 112 Brigade seeking assistance of Army rescue teams.Then they had found one of them dead after falling from a 700 ft precipice. The person who died AkalankaPerera was 24 years old and had worked for a privert company in Awissawella. The remains of the person were handed over to the Police.
West Indies announces team for T20

Today West Indies Selection Panel named the West Indies squads for the CG Insurance Oneday International Series and CG Insurance T20 International Series against Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and Coolidge Cricket Ground. Two individuals including a women arrested with 1kg of heroin

Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that two people including a women has been arrested and taken to custody for possession of narcotic substances during a special operation carried out by the STF. The male suspect was arrested yesterday 26th of February in Ragama area with 750g of ICE (crystal Methamphetamine) and seized over 1.5 Million cash in possession with the suspect. After further questioning a female suspect was arrested in Dehiwala area with 1 kg of heroin. The two suspects were handed over to police Narcotics Bureau (PNB). Also another 3 suspects arrested with 43g of ICE and STF detained the vehicle they were travelling with 4 mobile phones.
First death of a nurse due to covid 19 reported

She had been employed at Mawanella base hospitle in the ward no 03.The deceased Ms. Priyanthi Ramya Kumari ( 53 ) was transferred to Kandy National Hospitle on 11th of February and her death was reported 22nd of February.Government nursing officer’s association reported her as a member of 98 bach of kandy nursing school. She was appointed to Mawanella base hospitle in the year 2001.
