UN urges world to act expeditiously after the deadliest day in Myanmar; US horrified

Human rights officials from UN calling all the international community act immediate, to stop the bloodshed in Myanmar.They urges this after around 114 civilians were reportedly killed by Myanmar military junta on Saturday. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that he was deeply shocked after the murdering unarmed civilians and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that Washington is “horrified” by deaths in Myanmar on Saturday. Tom Andrews, UN Special Rapporteur for human rights in Myanmar said that its time for world to robust a coordinated action as words are not enough to protect peoples lives.
Two persons dead after being trapped in a gem mine

[28/03, 10:27] Prasa: Two persons dead after being trapped in a gem mine Two mens have been reported dead after being trapped in a gem mine in the Weralupitiya area in Avissawella yesterday (March 27), Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said. The incident had happened around 7 pm last night and thr power supply of the mine waa interupted and cut off due to the heavy rain occurred last night. The two persons who entered the mine at that time got trapped inside. Deceased men were reported 44 and 45 years old and the bodies have been placed at the Avissawella Hospital, DIG Ajith Rohana said. Police investigations will be carried out to ascertain the cause of death.[28/03, 11:52] Prasa: Makassar explosion; Suicide bomb blast outside a Catholic church in the Indonesia A suicide bomber detonated blasted as people were leaving a service for Palm Easter Sunday outside a Catholic church in the Indonesian city of Makassar Indonesia today ( March 28) It was reported that at least 10 people were injured from the incident but no one has yet not claimed that who is behind this attack. Father Wilhemus Tulak, a priest at the church said security guards had tackled the suspected bomber and also explained that attacker arrived by motorbike and tried to get into the church.
Teams boycotting the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar

Qutar was selected as the guardian country for the FIFA World cup in 2022 in the year 2010. But human right issue occurred with the country as more than 6,500 migrant workers have died in Qatar since the country was awarded the right to host the World Cup back in 2010. Because of this issue most of the teams had decided to boycott the match. German players lined up before their qualifying game against Iceland with “human rights” spelled out across T-shirts on Thursday (March 25). Following that Norwegian team wore tops with the message “human rights” on and off the pitch. But ,Roberto Martínez who has Belgium team to the top of the FIFA rankings says that boycotting the FIFA 2022 will be a big mistake and he also mentioned that teams should have accepted the situation as boycotting is not the solution for the issue. He has told that “We know that there’s been big issues, but we know as well that because of the World Cup, the Qatari government is already putting things in place and will follow all the human rights institutions” (CNN)
Western Province All the Schools and Pre schools will be reopen tommorow

Education Ministry states that all the schools including pre schools in western province will be reopen from tommorow. Director General of Health Service had givenrecommendations to the helth ministry for the reopening and Education Minister made the medeia announcement of the decision on 25th March. He also said that they believe that a conducive environment to re-open all schools and all grades in the western province has been created now. All the schools from other districts had already started.
Use locally manufactured soya oil ; Bandula Gunawardane

Instead of depending on imports public should use and promote locally manufactured soya oil for cooking in Sri lanka; Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardane He suggested this alternative as promoting coconut oil production will result in the price increasing in coconut available for day today consumption as coconut oil is the most commonly used cooking oil variety in Sri Lanka. “If we increase coconut oil production, we will have to use more and more nuts for it. Then, coconut prices will increase. Therefore, we should promote soya oil as a cooking oil variety. It can be manufactured successfully here,” he said. (daily mirror)

UNFPA advocates for a world free of violence against women and girls and they had found in a survey in 2019 found that one in four women have experienced physical or sexual violence since age 15 in Sri Lanka.
240 million worth dishonored checks to be recovered expeditiously; IRD

The Inland Revenue Department had received 6878 dishonorable checks worth 240 million rupees last year according to the reports till 31 December 2020. This was revealed at Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) at parliment today. The committee stated that Inland Revenue Department had instructed to take appropriate action immediately to recover the relevant amount expeditiously. Also, it is revealed about a case filed at the Colombo Magistrate’s court about recovering 2670 million worth arrears of tax in the casino business.

Rs 490 million has spent over Elephant – Human conflict ; COPA

Government has spent 490 million rupees to prevent conflicts between human and elephants during the time period of 2019 – 2020. This was revealed in a meeting at committee on public accounts (COPA) The committee also explained how the conflict was yet not resolved even after spending that amount of money as 28 human deaths and 83 elephant deaths were reported this year. Government spend 275447639 rupees for the construction of electric fence in 2019 and 221505818 rupees in 2020. The electric fence has constructed to 4756 km using this budget.
Min Aung Hlaing vows to safeguard the democracy in the country ; Coup leader of Myanmar

Myanmar’s military leader Min Aung Hlaing has promised to safeguard democracy while speaking on national Tv yesterday (March 26) for the Armed Forces day. Also he has promised to conduct a election but haven’t mentioned a date yet. He further noted that Russia as a true friend as two countries develop defence ties in recent years. But the state TV later states in a diffetrent broadcast, that protesters could have a risk of being shot in the head and back as the regime warned anti-coup protesters against taking to the streets. More than 320 people have been shot dead in the protests since February 1st. .
