The country could be reopened1st under strict travel restrictions

Senior Professor Arjuna de Silva of the Ragama Medical Faculty says that the country could be reopened on the 1st under strict travel restrictions. He added that the closure of the country for a long time seems to have good results.  However, he said the 25% limit on recruitment to public and private institutions should be maintained even after the country opens, adding that transit on public transport should also be kept within the 50% limit. He added that weddings and banquets should no longer be allowed, and that the country could only be fully opened once vaccination had reached the 70-80 percent mark. He points out that the number of deaths and infections during the country’s closure has dropped satisfactorily and that it is a good thing.

The Attorney General has confirmed that former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage’s statement that Sri Lanka’s defeat in the 2011 World Cup final was a match-fixing is baseless. Accordingly, the Special Police Investigation Unit has concluded investigations based on that statement. Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Upul Tharanga and several other players of the team were questioned by the police. Dullas Alahapperuma, the then Minister of Sports, had instructed the Police Unit to immediately investigate the statement.  However, Mahindananda Aluthgamage said at the time that he had evidence of match-fixing.

Vaccination for children started in two more districts

 Vaccination of children between the ages of 12 and 19 with complications under the school children vaccination program is scheduled to commence tomorrow (24). The Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella stated that the first child vaccination program will be launched at the Lady Ridgeway Children ‘s Hospital in Colombo. The Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella stated that vaccinations will be launched in Kurunegala and Anuradhapura districts thereafter.

A Sunrisers Hyderabad player in IPL has diagnosed with corona

A Sunrisers Hyderabad player has reportedly been placed under self-quarantine after being diagnosed with covid infection. During an RT-PCR test in Dubai, left-arm fast bowler T.J. Natarajan was diagnosed with an infection and showed no symptoms. All-rounder Vijay Shankar and several staff members of the team, who were identified as his close associates, have also been placed under quarantine.

Brazilian Health Minister attending UN General Assembly has been infected with corona

Brazilian Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga has been infected with the covid-19 virus. Foreign media reported that he had been diagnosed with the disease while attending a UN General Assembly session. The Brazilian health minister is said to have met with Brazilian President Jr Bolzoni about 19 hours before he was diagnosed with the disease. Brazilian Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga, who has been infected with Covid-19, is currently under quarantine and reportedly wore a face mask every time he attended the session. Marcelo Queiroga is the second person from the Brazilian delegation to the UN General Assembly to attend the UN General Assembly.  A Brazilian diplomat who had previously attended the General Assembly session was also diagnosed with Covid-19 infection.

A special discussion between Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the leaders of the partner parties representing the Sri Lanka People’s Front is scheduled to be held this afternoon (23). The discussion is scheduled to be held at Temple Trees at 4.30 pm today, government sources said. It is reported that the construction of the gas pipeline system and the storage complex at the Kerawalapitiya power plant will be handed over to an American company without a tender.

A Minister is bribing for selling lands at law prices- Dhammika Eliyapura

The lands belonging to the Land Reforms Commission have been leased out for an acre, said the Chairman of the Maldeniya Plantation Company, Dhammika Eliyapura. He also alleges that some lands have been given for a lease amount of about 75 acres. He also revealed that a minister in the South was being bribed for this and that the companies were spending money on it. He says that all the factories worth around Rs. 7,000 million have been dismantled and sold for iron and there is no point in telling anyone about this.

The GASTEC Summit will also serve as a global platform for formulating policies for zero carbon offsets in the world by 2050.
