Sri lanka is going to build a maritime expressway to demand debt repayment release

It is reported that a proposal has been made to build a maritime expressway between Sri Lanka and make that road available for use by the countries to which Sri Lanka has obtained loans and to demand a debt repayment release. This saves time in a day while flying across the expressway and saves an hour in flight time. The proposal of this resolution is to request a waiver from the repayment of loans in Sri Lanka in proportion to the amount left to the parties concerned. It is estimated that countries using the Ocean Expressway will be able to increase their annual profits by $ 8 billion and reduce costs by $ 2 billion. A concept paper on this has already been published and the Cabinet is to seek approval to discuss the matter with the World Bank and other agencies. At present the total foreign debt of the country is around US $ 60 billion.

The fastest train in the world

 It is widely believed that carbon dioxide emissions are one of the causes of climate change. Therefore, it seems that many countries in the world are gradually withdrawing from promoting domestic flights. According to foreign media reports, the demand for domestic flights in the Scandinavian countries has dropped due to the “Flight Shame” program. What is the alternative? The most popular option is a high-speed train.1. Shanghai Maglev It is considered to be the fastest train in the world. Its maximum speed is 460 km per hour. The train with steel wheels travels on steel tracks. It takes about 7 minutes to cover 30 km. 2. Fuzhou Train – China The train, which can carry about 1,200 passengers at a time, has a top speed of 350 kilometres per hour. The train will operate on the Beijing-Shanghai-Hong Kong and Beijing-Harbin routes. 3. InterCity Express (ICE) – Germany This train service, known as the White Worm among the Germans, is gradually expanding. Its top speed is 330 kilometres per hour. The train currently connects the major German cities with Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels. Countries such as Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Italy, and France have already introduced high-speed trains.

Miss Universe from India

 Harnas Sandhu of India has been crowned Miss Universe 2021. This year’s Miss Universe pageant was held in Israel for the 70th time.  The 21-year-old Hernas Sandu has won the Miss Universe crown. According to foreign media reports, India has been crowned Miss Universe 21 years later.

Sri Lankan authorities on Sunday (Dec 12) put on show what they said was the world’s largest natural corundum blue sapphire, weighing 310kg, which was found in a gem pit about three months ago. Local gemologists, who have examined the sapphire, said it was one of the rarest gems in the world as it weighed more than 300kg. International organisations are yet to certify the precious stone. The sapphire was put on display at the home of one of the gem pit owners in Horana, 65km south of Colombo. A group of Buddhist monks chanted blessings for the gemstone before it was unveiled. The stone was found in the gem-rich Ratnapura area where local people had previously found the world’s largest star sapphire cluster in a backyard by accident. Ratnapura is known as the gem capital of the South Asian country, which is a leading exporter of sapphires and other precious gems. The country earned around half a billion dollars through the export of gems, diamonds and other jewellery last year, the local gems and jewellery industry body has reported. (ChannelNewsAsia)

India becomes Miss Universe 2021

Miss India Harnaaz Sandhu won the coveted crown of Miss Universe 2021. The young 21-year-old wowed judges as she brought home the crown at the 70th Miss Universe 2021, held in Eilat, Israel. This win tastes sweeter as India has won the pageant after 21 years. Lara Dutta had previously won in the year 2000. The journey for Harnaaz Sandhu started when she was crowned Miss Universe India 2021 in October. She has acted in regional Punjabi films and theatre.

Milk powder companies had stopped distributing milk powder

Traders say that consumers have been severely inconvenienced as milk powder companies have not distributed milk powder packets to major plantation cities. Despite the increase in the price of milk powder by the milk companies, the traders say that their business activities have been hampered due to the non-issuance of stocks of milk powder to the market. The milk powder companies say that the shelves reserved for displaying milk powder packets in their shops are deserted as they do not issue milk powder packets to their shops.  Meanwhile, the Ambewela Highland Milk Market near the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat was closed due to the non-receipt of stocks of milk powder.

Valuable lands in the Colombo district lease out to foreign investors

The local media reports that agreements have been drawn up to lease out two very valuable lands in the Colombo District to foreign investors. The government’s expected revenue from the lease of these two lands is close to the US $ 1 billion. The Urban Development Authority has made the necessary arrangements for this. Accordingly, a five-acre land in the Dematagoda area is to be leased to an Indian investor for US $ 200 million and a private hospital project is to be implemented there. As a joint venture between China and Dubai, 10 acres will be leased for a housing project in Summit Flat, with expected revenue of US $ 750 million.  According to the media, MoUs have been drawn up and forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department. In addition, a Malaysian investor has submitted a project proposal to lease 1.5 acres of Colombo Fort to a Malaysian investor for a mixed project, valued at the US $ 125 million.  D.R. Attention is currently being paid to lease a 1.5 acre land on Wijewardena Mawatha to a Chinese company for a hotel and housing project. A Singaporean company is looking to invest in several lands in Katunayake and Galle while another company is looking to invest in several lands in Ja-Ela.

Harith Wijeratne won the voice Sri Lanka competition

 Harith Wijeratne won the Voice Sri Lanka crown at the finals of The Voice International program telecast on Sirasa TV last night (11). The winners received several prizes, including prizes worth millions of rupees. Competing with him in the final were Miyuru Somaratne, Thilina Sudesh and Julius Mitchell. Umaria Sinhawansa, Shashika Nissansala, Kasun Kalhara, Bathiya Jayakody and Santhush Weeraman were the judges of the Voice Stage.  The grand finale of The Voice International, which seeks out Sri Lanka’s best voice personality, was held last night at the Steyn Studio Complex in Ratmalana.

Another 30-minute power cut

The recent Norochcholai thermal power plant problem is still difficult to resolve Due to this the CEB has to go for another power cut. Accordingly, a 30 minute (half an hour) power cut will be imposed daily from yesterday (11) in selected parts of the island between 6-9.30 pm. It has been informed that this can be stopped after the repair of a generator at the Norochcholai power plant is completed.
