Mrs World Beauty Pageant took the attention of the whole world and Mrs America was crowned as Mrs World this time. People paid much attention to the Sri Lankan contestants as the controversial incident happened in the Mrs Sri Lanka crowning moment. Pushpa the Silva was able to get into the final six contestants and she had made a statement on her social media saying that she got fourth place in the event. But people commented under her statement correcting her saying that there is no way of giving places except the first three contestants. People started to criticise her statement had requested to correct it. Also, many Sri Lankan people criticised her for leading such a controversial incident as many suspects she used her political influence to win the contest. Also, the contestants who participated in the Mrs Sri Lanka event supported the former resigned Mrs World Caroline Juri for standing against the system. Even they didn’t approve of the way she removed the crown many said that Caroline Juri was pressured backstage for her controversial act as many believe the judgment was done under high political influence. So many Sri Lankan names resigned Mrs World Caroline Juri as the “Beauty queen of the people heart” who sacrifices her crown standing against the system. A fire in a forest reserve

A fire in a forest reserve near the Keselgamu Oya, which is the main source of water for Castlereagh Reservoir, has destroyed about two acres.  The fire had destroyed a reserve in the wet zone of Chapelton Estate in the Bogawantalawa Police Division. The fire broke out at around 5 pm on the 15th and lasted till around 7 pm. Residents of the Bogawantalawa area say that a group of people may have set fire to the reserve due to the severe dry weather conditions prevailing in the area.

However, the shipment of 30,000 metric tons of oil, which arrived on the 11th, began landing three days later on the 14th. However, the oil tanker that arrived on the 11th has not yet started unloading fuel.

Fatal accident in Ampara that killed three

 Three persons, including a child, were killed in a road accident in the Ali Wanguwa area on the Hingurana Siyambalanduwa road in the Ampara – Damana police division. The accident occurred when a lorry traveling from Damana to Wadinagala collided with a car coming from the opposite direction, police said. Eight persons were traveling in the car at the time of the accident and three of them were admitted to Ampara and Damana hospitals with serious injuries. Police stated that the three were killed there. The dead included a 31-year-old man, a 29-year-old woman and a four-year-old boy. The other five injured are being treated at the Ampara Hospital. The police stated that the accident had taken place due to the careless driving of the driver of the car and the lorry. The driver of the lorry has been arrested in connection with the accident. Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.

Mother of three drowns to death

A young wife who went to have fun with her husband and three children was the victim of an unfortunate fate. The woman had drowned while swimming in the Kosgoda sea. The deceased has been identified as a 32 year old woman residing in Kosgoda. Kosgoda Police are conducting further investigations.

Former President of Mali passed away

Former Malian President Ibrahim Bubakar Kita has died. Foreign media have reported that the former president has died at his home in the capital Bamako. Ibrahim Bubakar had a stroke two years ago, but it is unknown at this time what caused the deaths.  Ibrahim Bubakar was 76 years old at the time of his death.

Son-in-law strangles farther in law at wedding

A man was strangled to death over a family dispute at a wedding party. It was in Tissamaharama, Virahela area. The husband of the deceased’s eldest daughter had beaten the daughter’s father to death yesterday (16) following a dispute with family members during a wedding ceremony.  The deceased has been identified as a 54 year old resident of Padavigama, Lunugamvehera. The suspect has been identified and has fled the area, police said. Tissamaharama Police is conducting further investigations.

Big Bash League – Melbourne Stars win easily

 The Melbourne Stars won the Australian Big Bash League Cricket Tournament yesterday. Defeating that Brisbane Heat team. The Brisbane Heat won the toss and elected to bat first. The Brisbane Heat scored 149 runs for the loss of 6 wickets at the end of 20 overs. Ben Duckett scored 51 off 42 balls with two sixes and three fours for the Brisbane Heat. Chris Lynn scored 28 points. Chasing a target of 150, the Melbourne Stars chased down the target by just 2 wickets in 13 overs with 5 balls to spare. Joe Clarke scored 62 off 36 balls with one six and nine fours for the Melbourne Stars.

The United States has won the 2021 Mrs world Beauty Pageant this year. Shaleen Ford, a 37 – year – old married woman from the United States, was crowned Mrs World. The Mrs World beauty pageant was selected after several days of competition in the US state of Las Vegas.  Second place went to Jordan and third place to the United Arab Emirates. Mrs. Pushpika de Silva, the controversial Mrs Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka also participated in this competition. She entered the final 15 and competed for fourth place in the tournament.

Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal says the country’s economy is better off than it was a few months ago.  He added that the country’s economy is already improving. He said that the tourism sector is gradually recovering and good progress is being made in other sectors as well.
