Serious questions have been raised over the “One country One Law” Task Force appointed by President Gotabhaya Rajapaks with its Chairman Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera continuing to threaten other Buddhist monks over the phone. Another recording of a telephone conversation between Gnanasara Thera and another Buddhist monk, Kirulapona Dhammawijaya Thera, is currently being circulated on social media. According to the recording, Gnanasara Thera threatens to visit the residence of Dhammawijaya Thera and physically harm him. Criminal intimidation is an offence under section 483 of the Penal Code of Sri Lanka and Gnanasara Thera is seen flouting the country’s law regularly. President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the person who appointed Gnanasara Thera as the Head of the Task Force, is yet to take action on the errant Buddhist monk. source – Asian Mirror

Former and current cricketers from Sri Lanka and Pakistan took to social media to condemn and demand justice for the brutal killing of the Sri Lankan Factory Manager in Pakistan.  Former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya was among those who tweeted condemning the barbaric act and demanded justice for Priyantha Diyawadana. “What happened in Pakistan was very shocking. My deepest sympathies to the family. However, I know that the Pakistani prime minister @ImranKhanPTI will ensure that justice will prevail,” Tweeted Jayasuriya. The former match referee and World Cup winner Roshan Mahanama also condemned the incident calling it “unacceptable and shocking”. “I sincerely hope the same spirit will prevail and justice will be served as this is a crucial time where all of us are striving for religious and racial tensions to be eradicated in the world,” Mahanama further said via a tweet. “Shocking and sickening to hear the barbaric murder of a Srilankan. Those who are responsible should be brought before Justice and punished! No mankind should decide the fate of another #sialkot,” Tweeted Angelo Mathews.  Several former and current Pakistan cricketers too echoed the same views on Twitter, condemning the heinous act.  Former captain Shahid Afridi was one of the first to convey his sympathies as he tweeted a verse from the Quran.  “Whosoever kills a person … it shall be as if he has killed all mankind” -Al Quran [5:32] #Sialkot,” Afridi said.  Senior Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez said that he would call it a “Black Day” for his society. “Condemning the horrific attack on a factory & shameful incident in Sialkot. As Pakistani, I will call it a black day for our society,” Hafeez tweeted on Friday night. Shoaib Malik also joined in on condemning the murder. “we are embarrassed” Malik said while conveying condolences to the victim’s family. “My heartiest condolences, I stand with the family of the deceased & strongly condemn this act of violence. Ravi Karunanayake released from 11 charges out of 22

Former Minister Ravi Karunanayake has been released from several charges filed in connection to the 2016 Central Bank Bond Scam case. The Colombo High Court Trial at Bar today released Karunanayake along with ten others. Karunanayake has been released from 11 chargers out of 22 that were filed in connection to the scam. The charges were filed to ascertain if Karunanayake and the other suspects had profited nearly Rs. 15 million by violating the conditions pertaining to the central Bank bonds that were issued on 31st March 2015. The three-judge Trial at Bar announced today that as the 11 charges filed against the suspects cannot be continued, it is being dismissed and the suspects are being released. The case will be taken up once again on the 26th of January 2022 for further consideration. (NewsWire)

How to identify new stocks of Litro Gas?

Litro Gas Lanka has commenced the distribution of domestic LP gas conforming to the requirements of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA). The CAA said the new stock of domestic gas cylinders carries Polythene seals with a red logo on a white background along with the Litro Gas Lanka logo on the valves.  Meanwhile, the domestic gas cylinders distributed by Laugfs Gas PLC are of yellow and blue colours, and also carry a Polythene seal. The two gas companies will commence the distribution of the new stocks of domestic gas cylinders from today.  New stocks of gas cylinders under the scrutiny of the CAA are being distributed after a number of gas-related explosions were reported from various parts of the country recently. A Presidential Committee was also appointed to look into the matter and make recommendations, while samples of the gas were also tested by relevant authorities. Following a brief suspension of the distribution of domestic gas cylinders from both companies, the authorities have now permitted the distribution. (NewsWire)

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) says that they are hoping that the power supply could be provided undisrupted from tomorrow (07). Sri Lanka faced an islandwide power outage for several hours on Friday (03) due to a major breakdown. The power supply was disrupted for several hours on numerous occasions to several areas until the Norochcholai power plant was fixed. Several areas faced a one-hour power cut between 06 pm – 09 pm over the last few days as a result. A Senior CEB official told NewsWire that they are expecting that all issues will be rectified by tomorrow and the power supply will be provided undisrupted from there onwards. (NewsWire)

Veteran actor Sarath Chandrasiri has passed away. He was 57 years old at the time of his death and passed away at the Colombo National Hospital last night. A Sri Lankan man has been beaten to death and set on fire by a group of factory workers in Sealkot, Pakistan, the Express Tribune website reported. Sialkot District Police Officer Umar Saeed Malik said that the victim was identified as Priyantha Kumara, a Sri Lankan. He is said to have lived in Sialkot. The incident took place on Wazirabad Road in Sialkot, where private factory workers allegedly assaulted the export manager of a factory and then burnt his body to death. The Pakistan Punjab Police have not yet revealed the motive behind the murder of the Sri Lankan. Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bussard, referring to the assassination, said it was a “tragic incident”. The Punjab Police has been directed to investigate and file a report on the incident. Action must be taken against those who take the law into their own hands. ” The Punjab Chief Minister has stated that the report of the Express Tribune website further states. He has also ordered a high level inquiry into the incident after calling for a report from the IGP on the inhuman incident that took place in the Sealkot area. Pakistani media reported that a police team had been sent to the area to control the industrial situation. Although the Pakistani Express Tribune reported that the Sri Lankan had been killed on defamation charges, a Sealkot police spokesman said information would be shared with the media after a preliminary investigation.

People in Sri Lanka in long queues to buy kerosene due to gas and electricity crisis

Customers were seen queuing in front of petrol stations in the Hatton area due to the gas crisis and power outages for several hours. Due to the lack of electricity, some of the generators in the shops were activated and the consumers as well as the consumers were severely inconvenienced due to the lack of electricity. Fishermen in Jaffna are in a state of panic as dead bodies are dumped in the beach

Fishermen in Jaffna are in a state of panic as two more bodies were dumped at two locations on the Vadamarachchi beach in the Maradankeni police division in Jaffna  A group of fishermen had seen the first body dumped at Vadamarachchi Sakkottai beach in Jaffna and later they had spotted a body dumped at the Chundikulam beach in the East and had informed the Maradankeni Police. Police found One body was found at Vadamarachchi Maradankeni beach on November 30, one at Delft beach on November 28 and two at Manalkadu beach in Valvettithurai, Jaffna on November 27 with the assistance of fishermen. All the bodies dumped on the beach were found to be in an unrecognizable state of disrepair. All the bodies have been sent for postmortem examination. Meanwhile, there is a fear among the fishing community that bodies are being dumped at several beaches in Jaffna on a daily basis. The fishermen also requested the police to conduct an extensive investigation into the incident and release information. Meanwhile, there is no information or complaint regarding the disappearance of fishermen who went to sea in the Northern Province during the investigation into the bodies. The navy has also been alerted to find out whether the boat that capsized after trying to enter the North Sea had capsized and the people who had arrived there had drowned and their bodies were being dumped, police said.
