The All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association states that there is a possibility of a huge shortage of bread in the country in the future.
Its chairman, N.K. Mr Jayawardena states that this situation has arisen due to the shortage of wheat flour required for bakery products in the country.
He said that his association had held discussions with the flour companies in this regard and they had stated that they could not import flour due to non-receipt of dollars due.
He also said that the companies had stated that they would provide enough flour if the dollars were available.
He added that there will be a queue for bread in the future and the price of bread will be very high.
He said this while was addressing a media briefing.
