Former minister Subramaniam Swamy, a leader of the Indian Bharatiya Janata Party, has suggested that if support is needed to save the Rajapaksa family, the Indian Army should be dispatched.
Posting a note on his Twitter account, he has indicated that if Indian military support is needed for the Rajapaksas, India should provide it.
Both Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Mahinda Rajapaksa came to power in a free election and with majority power, so India should not allow such a legitimate government to be overthrown by a mob.
However, the Indian High Commission in Colombo states that the relevant opinion is not the position of the Indian government and rejects the request.
