People are buying gas more than day needed for daily consumption – Litro Gas

Litro Gas says it has created a huge market demand as consumers buy gas for their extra cylinders. They announce that the company is currently releasing more gas than it needs daily consumption and that the company has enough stock. The public is advised to purchase gas only for daily needs and not to stockpile as enough gas is there in the market for the future as well.
Shooting in the north

A youth was injured in a shooting in the Vishwamadu area in Puthukuduirippu East, police said. During an argument between two persons last evening (10), another person who had arrived at the scene had opened fire with a locally made firearm. A 22-year-old youth was injured in the shooting and was admitted to the Kilinochchi Hospital and later transferred to the Jaffna Hospital for further treatment. The suspect has been arrested and is due to be produced before the Mullaitivu Magistrate’s Court today (11)
Permission to import 300,000 metric tons of rice

Traders say that the price of rice in the local market is rising unexpectedly. Therefore, the Cabinet has approved the importation of rice required to provide rice to the people at reasonable prices. The Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardena has proposed to import rice to ensure that there are sufficient stocks of rice in the open market. The proposal made by the Minister of Trade, to proceed with the relevant activities, was approved by the Cabinet and accordingly, requested to import 200,000 metric tons of Nadu rice and 100,000 metric tons of GR 11 Short Grain Rice rice as a substitute for Samba rice.
The latest announcement about the power cut

The Ceylon Electricity Board says that there will be no power cuts in any area today (11). However, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) yesterday (jan. 10) announced a timetable for power cuts in the event of a future need. Accordingly, the A, B, C and D areas of the island will be divided into four zones and power cuts will be imposed in those areas between 5.30 pm and 9.30 pm if required. The cuts are set to take place from Monday to Saturday, but Sunday is not included in the schedule. The announcement also said the cuts would take effect if necessary to take steps to manage electricity demand
Woman commits suicide by jumping from CID upstairs

A woman who was arrested in connection with a money laundering case and is in the custody of the CID has reportedly committed suicide. Police said she jumped out of a window on the fifth floor of the CID. The 46-year-old woman was arrested by the CID for questioning in connection with a Rs. 60 million fraud. She had committed suicide by jumping to the ground at around 04.00 today morning (11), police said.

Appointed head coach of Zimbabwe infected with covid 19

A donation of 127 million stock of medical equipment from China

The Government of China has provided a consignment of medical equipment to the Government of Sri Lanka. Its value is said to be around 127 million rupees. The Chinese government has taken steps to provide this stock of medical equipment immediately in response to a special request made by the Government of Sri Lanka. The official handing over of the medical equipment took place at the Ministry of External Affairs yesterday (10). Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ki Shenhon has officially handed over the medical equipment to State Minister of Drugs Prof. Channa Jayasumana.
25.5 billion rupees donation from China

During Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Sri Lanka, he agreed to contribute to several projects, including making a financial contribution to Sri Lanka. The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka said in a Twitter message. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has agreed to carry out four projects, including a financial donation of 25.5 billion rupees to Sri Lanka. The Twitter message further states that the agreements include the repair of BMICH, the provision of ambulances with equipment to facilitate the detection of kidney patients, and the construction of 1996 housing units for low-income low-income earners in Colombo.
