A foreigner falls with a parachute

A foreigner who was traveling in a parachute fell and was injured, reports say from the Lulkandura area. Police said that the parachute had landed in the Ralimangoda area when it had fallen into a tree about 30 feet high. The foreigner injured in the accident has been admitted to the Kandy Hospital. The victim was a 35-year-old Russian national. Galaha Police are conducting further investigations.

Welikada verdict – Emil Ranjan sentenced to death

Former Prisons Commissioner Emil Ranjan Lamahewa has been sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court yesterday day (12).  Neomal Rangajeewa, the then Inspector of the Police Narcotics Bureau, who was the first accused in the case, was acquitted by the court. 27 inmates were killed during a search operation conducted by the Police Special Task Force (STF) at Welikada Prison on November 09, 2012. Meanwhile, a group of officers including the then Commanding Officer of the Police Special Task Force, the Deputy Inspector General of Police were also injured.

Caroline Jury, Pushpika de Silva and Chula to the Conciliation Board

Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika C. Wijewardena has summoned Miss World Caroline Jury, Miss Sri Lanka Bride Pushpika de Silva and model Chula Padmendran to appear before the Mediation Board. Caroline Jury and Chula Padmendran have been accused of forcibly removing the crown on the head of Pushpika de Silva, who wore the crown at the 2020 Mrs Sri Lanka beauty pageant and inflicting minor injuries on her head, as well as criminal intimidation. Police had earlier reported in court that state property is worth Rs. 700,000 had been damaged in the incident. Cinnamon Gardens Police have filed charges against Caroline Jury and Chula Padmendran for criminal intimidation by dropping the charge under the Public Property Act as the organizers of the Mrs Sri Lanka beauty pageant have now covered the loss.

The two children in Kotadeniyawa are not sent home but sent to an orphanage

Minuwangoda Magistrate Kesara C. Wijewardena has ordered that the two boys who were found missing for 44 days in Kotadeniyawa be detained at the Makola Orphanage until March 7. The magistrate ordered the probation officer to submit a full report on the two children aged 10 and 12 on March 7 and after receiving the report, the magistrate said that action would be taken about the two children. After meeting these children, their mothers refused to go into custody. Imaduwa OIC’s friend allowed to drive drunk on highway

Police interrogate a drunk driver who was about to enter the Southern Expressway from Imaduwa to Galle. Hungarian Foreign Minister arrives in Sri Lanka

A cycling race on the highway

Arrangements have been made to hold a cycling race on the Central Expressway. Super fighter jet disappears from the Air Force

There will be a power cut today

The Ministry of Power and Energy states that there will be a power cut in some parts of the island tonight (12).
