STF opens fire at cab speeding past checkpoint; Pedro, Jaffna

A group of sand smugglers attacked STF soldiers anddefied an order to stop at the checkpoint and Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel at a road checkpoint in Point Pedro, Jaffna have opened fire at a cab this morning(April 16) ; Nelliady Police said.

Then the two persons aged 23 and 26 suspects to be travelled in the cab have been admitted to Point Pedro hospital in the Vadamarachchi Mulli area in the Nelliady area in Jaffna.

A group of sand smugglers who had arrived in a cab had tried escape despite roadblocks on a road and Police Special Task Force (STF) soldiers had tried to stop the cab when a suspect had assaulted a police officer with a shovel and tried to escape.

The Police Spokesman said the Point Pedro Police has launched an investigation into the incident.
