Alibaba got huge fine for abusing its dominant market position

China’s Alibaba ,the world’s biggest online retailer had received a record fine of $2.75bn.According to the regulators in China the company had abused its dominant position in market for several years. A fuel bowser catches on fire in the Southern Expressway

A fuel bowser caught fire on the Southern Expressway today morning (April 10) ;Police said It is reported that the fuel bowser was traveling from Colombo to Galle and it had veered off the road and caught fire in the Kurunduga hahetekma area on the southern expressway. The driver and his assistant were injured in the incident and were admitted to the Nagoda Hospital, police said.

Sri Lankan economy is losing around Rs. 20 billion by wasting vegetables and fruits per year; Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) revealed. This was revealed after an audit conducted by the National Audit Office in 2015. The report reveals about 270000 metric tons of vegetables and fruits are being wasted annually in the country. The above informations were mentioned at a COPA Committee meeting chaired by Prof. Tissa Vitharana which was held at the Parliament Complex (April 07). The post-harvest damage in the vegetables and fruits in Sri Lanka is estimated between 30-40 precent according to the report. Also thr report says that 73% of adult population is not consuming the considerable adequate amount of vegetables and fruits. The man who shipped from Australia to UK in a wooden crate : searching for his two friends Paul and John

Brian Robson the person who shipped from Australia to UK is looking for his two Irish friends who helped stuff him into a wooden crate in 1965 and ship him home to the U.K. in the mail. He was 19 years old at that time and had travelled from Cardiff, Wales, to Melbourne, Australia, to work for Victorian Railways. But after came to Melbourne in 1964 he regretted the decision and became worried with homesick. But quitting his job and flying home wasn’t easy as he had a contract with the Australian government to stay and work for two years. If he broke the contract, he has to pay back the money the country spent for him which was around £700. But his monthly wage was £40 at that time and it was impossible to find that amount of money easily. But his two buddies executed an unconventional plan. They took a wooden crate and it was enough to barely fit inside with his knees folded up to his chest. He only had a bottle of water, a flashlight, an empty bottle, a small suitcase, a pillow and a hammer to break out. Then they covered it with labels that read “Fragile,” “Handle with care” and “This side up.”The parcel was scheduled to fly from Melbourne to London within 36 hours. He explained how terrifing the journey was and how he ended up in USA instead of UK. He thankfull for America because he was treated nicely. Many years later he had written a book named“The Crate Escape”. Also he told the media that “I’d love to find them again.”

A 3000-year-old city was uncovered: Egypt’s lost golden city

Famous Egyptologist Zahi Hawass announced the discovery of the remains of an ancient city in the desert outside Luxor (April 8) It is identified as the largest city ever found in Egypt. It dates back to the age of the pharaohs and dated back to 3000 years and belong to the reign of Amenhotep III and discovered as continued to be used by Tutankhamun. City was buried under sand for thousands years and it is one of the most important finds since unearthing Tutankhamun’s tomb. “second most important archeological discovery since the tomb of Tutankhamun” Betsy Bryan, professor of Egyptian Art and Archaeology at Johns Hopkins University said. Jewellery items, coloured pottery vessels, scarab beetle amulets and mud bricks bearing seals of Amenhotep III have been unearthed. The excavations began in September last year.
