No power cut because of the O/L examination

The Public Utilities Commission states that there will be no power cuts due to the GCE Ordinary Level Examination today and the 29th of May. Accordingly, the commission has released the power cut schedule till June 1. During that time, power outages were suspended during the night. The full schedule is as follows.
Fuel price increased again?

The United Trade Union Confederation (UTUC) says the government plans to increase fuel prices next week. Its convener Ananda Palitha states that the CPC now has sufficient stocks of diesel, petrol and kerosene. However, he said that the oil stocks were being issued in a limited manner in the hope of raising oil prices next week. He added that there would be no fuel shortage until mid-June. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said that in some areas, the organized group is blocking the bowsers transporting fuel and forcing them to land at the nearest petrol station. They also threatened to set fire to the browser if it did not land, the Minister said. If these groups continue to do so, the distribution of fuel will have to be suspended for the safety of fuel transport workers, he added.

Lanka IOC to supply Petrol only to vehicles

Lanka IOC in a statement on Friday (20) said that Petrol will ONLY be supplied directly into the fuel tank of the vehicles at the Lanka IOC filling stations with immediate effect. Lanka IOC said that petrol will not be provided from Lanka IOC filling stations into cans, containers, or bottles. This has been decided to ensure the safety of the public and property, said Lanka IOC.

The unloading of the paid petrol tanker begins – Petroleum Corporation

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) says that the unloading of the tanker will begin today (20). Its chairman, Sumith Wijesinghe, said it had 37,000 metric tons of petrol. Meanwhile, I. O.C. The Chairman further stated that the unloading of stocks from a petrol vessel ordered by the Company commenced last night (19). He said the corporation plans to start distribution of petrol soon. Meanwhile, the landing of diesel on the diesel ship that arrived in Sri Lanka has been completed. The Chairman also stated that the distribution of diesel will continue. Meanwhile, long queues for petrol and other fuels can be seen in many parts of the island. Petrol was not issued at most filling stations.
The economic crisis in Sri Lanka -Only essential officers of the public service report for duty today

The Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government has instructed the Heads of Institutions that all public officers other than those required to carry out essential services are not required to report for duty today (20). A Secretary to the Ministry, By a circular issued by Mr J.J Ratnasiri. It states that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated in Parliament yesterday (19) that these steps were taken considering the current fuel shortage and transportation difficulties in the country. However, the circular also states that this decision should not interfere with the discretion of the head of the institution regarding the recruitment of officers for urgent and essential duties. Meanwhile, the Examinations Department said in a statement that the officers assigned to the GCE Ordinary Level examination duties should report for duty even if they are given leave to schools today.
