The All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association states that there is a severe shortage of bread flour in the country. Only 75% of the flour requirement for bakeries in the country is obtained As such, the bakery industry is collapsing. Mr. Jayawardena said.  He added that bakery products have been reduced due to this and bakery owners have had to increase their prices. Although a loaf of bread sells for around 100 rupees today, in the future it will not be possible to buy a loaf of bread for even three or four hundred rupees.  Due to this he requested the government to re-impose the control price on bread flour as soon as possible and intervene to control the price of flour.

Ranjan Ramanayake has been summoned to the Police Investigation Division of the Presidential Commission

Former Member of Parliament Ranjan Ramanayake has been summoned to the Police Investigation Division of the Presidential Commission to Investigate Political Revenge yesterday (17).  He was brought to the Commission’s office at the BMICH premises in Colombo under a high-security guard. Mr. Ranjan Ramanayake was summoned  as a respondent in six complaints and he gave a statement to the police unit for about 4 hours.

A fouth dose of corona vaccine for people visiting abroad

The Pfizer vaccine, will be again given as a fourth dose of the vaccine to the people visiting approved countries. The fourth dose will be given one month after the third dose, said the Director General of Health Services, Asela Gunawardena.  He added that the fourth dose would be given only to those who go abroad.

A police constable has been killed

A police constable has been killed in the Vitharandeniya area in Tangalle. . Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that a group of persons who were constructing a hotel adjacent to his house had assaulted the police constable and killed him last night. The group also assaulted the wife of the constable who was at the house and another person.  Further investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Former IGP Pujith Jayasundara acquitted in the Easter case

A three-judge bench of the Colombo High Court today acquitted former IGP Pujith Jayasundara of all charges against him for failing to prevent an Easter Sunday terrorist attack. The order was issued today by a unanimous decision of a three-judge bench of the Colombo High Court comprising Namal Balalle, Aditya Patabendige and Mohamed Irsadeen. Pujith Jayasundara was acquitted in this case filed by the Attorney General under 855 indictments without even calling the witnesses in the case. In addition, a three-judge bench of the Colombo High Court today acquitted former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando of all charges against him for failing to prevent an Easter Sunday terrorist attack.
