The final decision of Danushka Gunathilake

Sri Lanka cricketer Danushka Gunathilake has decided to retire from Test cricket.  It is reported that he has informed Sri Lanka Cricket about his decision. It said he had decided to retire from Test cricket to allow more time for ODIs and Twenty20s.

The Sri Lankan cricket team suddenly loses two strong players

It is reported that two strong players of the Sri Lanka team will not participate in the upcoming ODI series between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. According to media reports, Avishka Fernando has contracted covid 19 virus recently. Meanwhile, Wanindu Hasaranga is also said to be injured.

Chinese Foreign Minister join for Several openings in the Colombo port city

 Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is on a two-day official visit to Sri Lanka, is scheduled to meet the President and the Prime Minister today (09). A special flight carrying the Chinese Foreign Minister and his delegation arrived in Sri Lanka last night (08). Minister Namal Rajapaksa welcomed the Foreign Minister and his delegation who arrived in Sri Lanka on a two-day official visit. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to attend several inaugurations in the port city today. He is also scheduled to meet with some of the country’s top officials. Meanwhile, the 65th anniversary of Sino-Sri Lankan diplomatic relations will be commemorated here. It is reported that the Chinese Foreign Minister will present a number of investment proposals during his visit to Sri Lanka.

The Saudi princess freed from the high-security prison

The Saudi princess and her daughter, who was held in a high-security prison for more than three years. They have been released without charge. Princess Basma Bint South was detained by Saudi authorities in March 2019 while preparing to travel to Switzerland for medical treatment. However, no charges have been filed against her or her daughter so far. Critics say she may be holding back from appearing on humanitarian issues and constitutional reform.

France lawmaker dies of Covid infection

 French lawmaker Jose Edward has died of the covid 19 virus infection. The announcement was made by the Speaker of the Parliament yesterday (07). Jose Edward is reported to have protested against the health guidelines that have been put in place to control the spread of covid in France. He has also reportedly supported protesters against health measures.  It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.

India changed the Quarantine laws

  The Indian government has announced a seven-day quarantine period for foreign nationals. The Government of India has announced that it will launch a quarantine process if it is found to be infected by the covid test on the 8th, announcing the new decisions taken to control the spread of covid. The new decisions will take effect on Tuesday the 11th.

Man arrested for killing wild elephant

The suspect involved in the shooting death of an elephant near the gravel road on the Kirinda, Sithulpawwa, Yodhakandiya road has been arrested. The suspect was arrested by the Tangalle CID in the Koragahaulpatha area in Kirinda.  Police also found a T56 firearm, 07 rounds of ammunition and a magazine used to kill the wild elephant in the suspect’s possession. The arrested suspect is a 39 year old resident of Tissamaharama. The suspect is to be produced before the Tangalle Magistrate’s Court today (08).

There will be queues for bread in the country near future

The All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association states that there is a possibility of a huge shortage of bread in the country in the future.  Its chairman, N.K. Mr Jayawardena states that this situation has arisen due to the shortage of wheat flour required for bakery products in the country. He said that his association had held discussions with the flour companies in this regard and they had stated that they could not import flour due to non-receipt of dollars due. He also said that the companies had stated that they would provide enough flour if the dollars were available. He added that there will be a queue for bread in the future and the price of bread will be very high. He said this while was addressing a media briefing.

Parliament Employees Steals food from the Parliament

 Parliament has announced a new program to check employees’ baggages. The Secretary General of Parliament has issued these instructions to the Parliamentary Police Division by issuing a circular.  This program is effective in preventing the use of utensils, including food preparation items, in Parliament without proper permission. When the employees of the Parliament leave the Parliament Proper inspection will be done accordingly. This investigation has been initiated based on the information received that a Parliamentary food release program is underway.
