Special assistance from India to Sri Lanka

India has provided over US $ 900 million in foreign exchange assistance to Sri Lanka.  It is reported that this assistance has been provided to strengthen the foreign exchange reserves of the country.  In addition, Sri Lanka has extended the payment of another US $ 500 million due to India under the Asian Clearance Arbitration Framework.

BTS ARMY celebrated their 9th anniversary with Jimin #Jiminday

The world-famous pop band BTS fans known as ARMY are celebrating their beloved idol group members joining the band. According to the media, it has been 9 years since the dancer and the vocalist park Jimin join to the group. He was famous for his extraordinary dance steps and high pitch singing. Also, he gains much love because of his kind and charming personality.

Terrible accident on a highway in South Africa

 At least 16 people have been killed in a road accident on a highway in South Africa.  According to foreign media reports, the accident took place in the Limpopo area.  Foreign media reported that a small bus carrying passengers had collided with a car. The bus had caught fire and 16 passengers had died in the accident. Eight other people were injured in the accident and hospitalized, foreign media reported.

Nigeria lifts the Twitter ban

Foreign media have reported that the Nigeriasban on Twitter has been lifted.  Twitter has been banned from using social media for seven months since last June. The use of Twitter in Nigeria has been suspended due to a problem following the publication of a statement by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Twitter. However, the Nigerian government said in a statement yesterday that it would lift the ban on Twitter with the president’s approval.

Bhanuka rejoins the team

Sri Lankan cricketer Bhanuka Rajapaksa has changed his decision to retire from international cricket. Earlier in the day, the Sports Minister had asked Bhanuka Rajapaksa to reconsider his decision to resign. However, a special discussion between Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa and Bhanuka Rajapaksa was held at Temple Trees yesterday (12).

A suspect was remanded for breaking the leg of a lawyer by beating him with an iron rod

Nugegoda Pannaradhana Magistrate Prasanna Alwis yesterday (12) remanded the suspect who was arrested for breaking the leg of a lawyer with an iron rod for burning garbage in an empty land until the 18th of this month.  The suspect was a resident of Waraketiya, Maharagama. The suspect was arrested by the Maharagama Police and produced before the court. The lawyer had burnt the rubbish on the afternoon of the 11th in an empty plot of land between the suspect’s house and the plaintiff’s house. The lawyer who appeared for the plaintiff pointed out that the suspect who had come there at that time had argued with the lawyer and then had beaten him with an iron rod. The lawyers  said that one of the lawyers legs had been broken in several places due to the assault and that he was being treated at the Kalubowila Hospital and was due to undergo surgery.

Administrative Secretary of the Sri Lanka People’s Front as the new Chairman of Litro Gas Company

Steps have been taken to appoint Reka Perera as the new Chairman of Litro Gas Company.  Secretary to the Treasury S.R. Mr. Attygalle has informed this to the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation. Copies of this letter have been sent to the Secretary to the President, the Secretary to the Prime Minister and the former Chairman of Litro, Thushara Jayasinghe. The new chairman, Renuka Perera previously served as chairman of the Housing Authority and resigned due to a disagreement with a state minister. Mr. Renuka Perera is also the Administrative Secretary of the Sri Lanka People’s Front.

Sri Lanka is ranked third out of 194 countries in the world in terms of corona control

Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella says that Sri Lanka is ranked third out of 194 countries in the world in terms of corona control. He said that it was the highest achievement of the people of this country as a country in this century. He also states that due to the successful vaccination in the country, the lives of the people have been given a chance. He said this while he was addressing the media at a program held at the Urban Development Authority. He further stated that the aim is to save the lives of the people through maximum vaccination and many Sri Lankans are now successfully conducting the third vaccination in a year.

Station masters started a strike

The General Manager of Railways says that some office trains and all long distance trains have been canceled due to the strike. However, the General Manager of Railways further stated that arrangements have been made to run 80 office trains. The Station Masters’ Association has commenced a 24 hour token strike from midnight yesterday (12). The President of the Railway Station Masters’ Association Sumedha Somaratne stated that the trade union action has been initiated based on several demands including the unannounced cancellation of long distance train services.

Popular American singer passes away

Popular American pop singer Ronnie Spector has died, according to foreign media reports.  Foreign media quoted her family sources as saying that she had died of cancer. She was 78 years old when she died. Her singing career started with her older sister and another cousin attracted fans. The song “Be My Baby,” was extremely popular among fans.
