350 million earned from expressways during past festive season

Rs. 350 million has been earned from expressways during the last 11 days of the festive season, Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando stated This amount has been earned through the entire expressway system from April 08 up to now. Over 1,236,288 vehicles traveled on the expressways during the period and the highest number of vehicles on the expressways during this period was on April 10.
Woman remanded for giving false information to 119

Two women have been arrested for giving false information to 119 police emergency number; Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated. Dankotuwa police had received the call at around 2.45 pm yesterday (April 18) stating that a group of people had taken the explosives from a vehicle and were preparing to cause some issue; he further added. Dankotuwa Police has revealed that the call was made by a 25-year-old woman who is residing in the Dankotuwa area after a special investigation. The two women were arrested yesterday and produced before the Marawila Magistrate’s Court. The women who made the call has been remanded till the 28th and the other woman has been released on bail.
Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP )separates from Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) on May Day;A separate May Day rally – General Secretary Said.

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has decided to hold a separate May Day rally to mark International Labor Day on May 1; the General Secretary of the party Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara stated. Also the party had decided to invite other government parties to join the relly. He said that all parties in the UPFA, including Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, would be invited to join the May Day rally. Accordingly the invitation cards would be sent to them. He also said that Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva will be participating in the May Day rally as the representative of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. He said these while speaking to the media after a discussion at the SLFP headquarters.
Government is in a deal with Badurdheen , it is clear – Archbishop

Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith says the current government is in two deals with former minister Rishad Badurdheen. Him points out that this situation became clearer while making 20th Amendment in the constitution. He said that it was clearer after only the party leader did not vote in favor of the amendment, the rest of the parliamentarians voted in favor. The cardinal said he had mentioned about this deal few days earlier to release of the former minister ‘s brother and that had been confirmed later in the 20th amendment vote. He expressed these ideas at a media briefing in Colombo.

Sri Lanka is facing a big corona wave like India – Keeping the country open is risky

The corona infections in Sri Lanka will be as serious as they are in India in next few weeks; the Association of Public Health Inspectors stated. Districts including Colombo,Jaffna,Trincomalee and Puttalam are already at a high risk, Upul Rohana President of the association pointed out. Even the daily test number is reduced now the number of PCR tests and random tests should be increased at least to 10,000. He added that a high level of corona can be expected in the coming weeks as public behavior during the New Year season has been disregarded for health and safety practices. Meanwhile, Army Commander Shavendra Silva states that wearing masks is mandatory in the coming months
