An earthquake shook the city of Melbourne

An earthquake shook the city of Melbourne in the state of Victoria in Australia this morning (22). Its magnitude was 5.8 on the Richter scale.

The quake struck at around 9.15 am local time today. Its epicenter was reported in the Mansfield area, not far from Melbourne.

It is considered one of the largest earthquakes to hit eastern Australia. The quake was also recorded on CCTV cameras.

About 15 minutes later, a magnitude 4 earthquake shook the region. Many buildings have been damaged.

The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued.

These include Victoria, Sydney, New South Wales, Adelaide, Tasmania, and Canberra. Steps have been taken to evict people living in apartments in Melbourne.
