Police say that a special operation will be launched from today (27) in the Western Province to find places where children under the age of 16 are employed as slaves, Police Media Spokesman, Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stated. Recent incidents have revealed that children under the age of 16 are being used as domestic servants and that such children are being subjected to cruelty, Senior DIG Ajith Rohana further said. It is an offense under t he country’s criminal law to abuse children and to use them in slavery before reaching the age of majority,he explained. The use of arecanut has been identified as the main reason for this and the oral cancer is the most common cancer in men and is one of the 10 most common cancers in women,the unit said According to the National Cancer Control Unit, about 2,700 new cases of oral cancer will be reported in 2019 and two or three deaths related to oral cancer occurring daily.
